WINNIPEG – In the early 1900s, Gulf Canada went by the name British-American and it was the fourth largest oil company in the country.
British-American Oil was founded in Toronto in 1906 and began expanding throughout Canada.
In 1920, BAO purchased a small local oil business in Manitoba known as Winnipeg Oil Company and established a regional headquarters here.
Very few remnants of the Winnipeg Oil Company exist today, including antique coach oil cans like this one.
If you happen to have this “best oil for the purpose” tin lying around in decent condition, you may be looking at a resale value of over $300!
