WINNIPEG, MB. – In a shared commitment to the continued process of reconciliation, the city is inviting all organizations, businesses and individuals to become signatories to Winnipeg’s Indigenous Accord.

The Accord was unanimously adopted by City Council on March 22, 2017, marking an important step forward in the City’s Journey of Reconciliation. To date, 110 organizations, businesses, groups and individuals have formally become partners of the Accord. An initial signing ceremony was held on June 20, 2017 at the Odena Circle at The Forks bringing together a diverse community of over 80 initial signatories to the Accord.

“Thank you to all those who have signed the Accord over the last year and I want to encourage everyone to become a partner,” said Mayor Brian Bowman. “Winnipeg’s Indigenous Accord is another step in the Journey of Reconciliation our city has embarked upon. By signing the Accord, you become one voice in a chorus of diverse voices, from all across Winnipeg, responding to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s calls to action. The Accord is helping Winnipeg moving forward by strengthening our relationships with First Nations, Métis, and Inuit people, and also gives Accord partners the ability to share, gain inspiration and encouragement, and continue each of our individual paths of reconciliation.”

The Accord is a living document that guides our shared commitment to the Journey of Reconciliation in Winnipeg. Our shared commitment is rooted in the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s (TRC) 94 Calls to Action and is guided by the commitments and principles contained in the Accord.

As a living document, the Accord is an ongoing responsibility accepted by signatories, who through becoming partners to the Accord agree to report the success of their commitment to reconciliation and their future goals on an annual basis.

Collaboration with other organizations and groups, across sectors, and with Indigenous organizations, governments, and individuals is essential to the ongoing Journey of Reconciliation in Winnipeg to make our city a better place to live based on mutual respect, equal opportunity, and hope.
