Woman Carjacked on Robinson Street, a 23 and 16 Year-Old Charged

WINNIPEG – A 33-yer-old woman was car-jacked in Winnipeg Sunday night around 11:30PM, one man and a youth have been charged.

Police said a 33-year-old woman had been parked on Robinson Street near Flora Avenue when two male suspects approached and ordered her out of her SUV. One suspect grabbed her by the sleeve and pulled her out of the vehicle. They then drove off with the SUV which contained the woman’s purse and iPhone.

The woman was able to activate the Find My iPhone service and track the stolen SUV to the area of Swinford Way and Carsdale Drive. AIR1 immediately began searching the area and located the vehicle in the 100 block of Swinford Way.

Police converged on the stolen SUV and attempted to contain it; however, the SUV clipped the front of a cruiser, jumped a median and rammed another cruiser before coming to a stop. Two males were taken into custody and one officer suffered minor injuries.

Police believe that each suspect drove the stolen vehicle at different times and both were impaired by a combination of alcohol and drugs.

While being processed, one suspect spit into two interview room microphones causing them to become inoperable.

Ashtan Cole Peters, a 23-year-old man from Winnipeg, has been charged with:

  • Robbery
  • Flight while Pursued by Peace Officer
  • Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle
  • Driving While Ability Impaired
  • Driving While Disqualified
  • Assault with a Weapon
  • Assault with a Weapon
  • Fail to Comply Condition Recognizance by Judge/Justice (x2)
  • Mischief Under $5,000/Obstruct in Enjoyment

A 16-year-old male from Winnipeg has been charged with:

  • Robbery
  • Flight while Pursued by Peace Officer
  • Driving While Ability Impaired
  • Fail to Comply Condition Undertaking by Judge/Justice (x2)

The 16-year-old also had an outstanding warrant for “Fail to Comply Conditions Undertaking (x3).”
