WINNIPEG, MB – It was quite a week in Gimli as they played host to the Manitoba Credit Unions Master Men’s and Women’s Provincial curling championships this week.

The teams were competing for the right to represent Manitoba at the 2018 Canadian Masters Curling Championships taking place in Surrey, BC. April 1-8.

On the men’s side, the Mark Franklin team from Winnipeg took on Virden’s Sandy Ritchie team in the final on Monday afternoon. After a defensive battle to begin the game, the game would be tied at two going into the 8th and final end where Franklin would end up scoring three, and booked his ticket to Surrey with a 5-2 win. It’s the second title in a row for Franklin.

On the women’s side, Gwen Wooley’s rink liked the National Curling Championship so much last year, she decided to do it again this year.

The 61 year old from Minto took down Sandra Cowling’s Hamiota rink by a score of 7-4 Saturday afternoon. Wooley will be looking for a better finish this year, after posting a 7-2 mark in the round robin, Wooley was unable to win a playoff game, losing both the semi-final and bronze-medal games to finish fourth.
