WINNIPEG – The list of school layoffs from CoVid-19 is growing. The River East Transcona School Division is the latest to join several others in Manitoba by announcing staff is being temporarily laid off because of coronavirus. River East says close to 600 employees have been let go including 400 educational assistants.

WINNIPEG TRANSIT CHANGES
WINNIPEG -Because ridership during the CoVid-19 pandemic is down 72 per cent, the city is making some moves at Winnipeg Transit. 253 bus drivers will be temporarily laid off next month. And starting Monday, May 4th, the weekday bus routes will switch to an enhanced Saturday schedule. The busing on weekends won’t change.

TEACHER FACES MORE SEX CHARGES
WINNIPEG – A teacher at Grant Park High School faces more sexual assault charges after city police say they identified two more victims. CITY LAYOFFS ANNOUNCED
WINNIPEG – As the CoVid-19 pandemic continues, the city has announced several hundred layoffs. 674 non-permanent staff have been laid off temporarily. These are the people who’d normally be working at recreation centres, pools, arenas and libraries that suspended programming almost a month ago. FOLK FEST CANCELLED
WINNIPEG – One of the summer’s biggest outdoor events has been cancelled. Organizers of the Winnipeg Folk Festival say the 47th annual event now won’t happen in July because of CoVid-19. Ticket refunds are available but the fest is hoping people might donate their ticket to help make sure the event happens in the future.
NO FINES YET, JUST WARNINGS
WINNIPEG – No tickets yet for violations of the CoVid-19 rules. Since Saturday, patrols have been at city parks and other public spaces making sure people are social distancing and so far so good. Officials did however issue a few dozen warnings. Hefty fines and time behind bars are both possibilities if people don’t listen.
